Chris' experiences in the first five chapters of Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer display lessons that can be taken from this book and applied to everyday life. The most useful life lesson I was able to take from the beginning of this book was Chris' message that money is not the most important thing. Some people believe money is the most important thing to have in the world. I was one of those people until i began to read this book. Money can buy fancy toys and cool knick-knacks, but Chris had no money and enjoyed his life and lived to to the fullest. In order to make money, a person must go to work everyday and preform a service. If they want a lot of money then they must preform a greater service and do it for a longer period of time. Most people want money to buy things and go places, but they dread waking up and going to work. Chris fixed that problem. He enjoyed being by himself and alone in the wilderness. It required absolutly no money to go live under a tree and kill his own food. He enjoyed his life more than most people and he did it with an empty bank account. "The best things in life are free." Because of Chris McCandless, I now understand the true meaning of that quote and that I should enjoy my life instead of wasting my time with less important things.
